Message Recap | 11.9.2014
Speaker: Aaron Taylor, Lead Pastor
My family, like so many other families, have stories that are told over and over and over again. It seems like every time the family gets together, someone brings up an old story and we all groan a little, but endure the time it takes to put it to life. I remember the stories of my Grandpa Fred. He was a great story teller. I remember when I was about 5 or 6 years old, sitting next to him and listening so intently. To me, at that age, it was an adventure story. Like the time when Grandpa Fred talked about his mother. I never knew her, but he shared the moments and memories of her and growing up on a farm in Toledo. He told us that he and the rest of the kids were taught by his mother how to chase the chickens that would wander onto the farm and out into the road in hopes that the few trucks or tractors would come along and hit them. I know, it’s not a pretty picture, but Grandpa Fred said that they had to eat. Well, I loved the stories and continue to remember them.
As we continue our series, My Story, we are going to hear about a Story of Freedom. Here is Todd’s Story!
What a powerful story! Todd had so much hurt, anger, and rage. Hate controlled him and drug addiction was part of his daily routine. That is…until Todd met Jesus.
There is a similar story of freedom that we find in Luke Chapter 8. A man who was feared in his community because of the control the enemy had over his life.
“Luke 8:26-27 (ESV): Then they sailed to the country of the Gerasenes, which is opposite Galilee. When Jesus had stepped out on land, there met him a man from the city who had demons. For a long time he had worn no clothes, and he had not lived in a house but among the tombs.” (Read Luke 8: 27-39 for the entire story)
Do you know that there is a path to freedom? There is and it starts with your condition. Perhaps your condition keeps you from being free. Perhaps it leaves you feeling exposed and in a dark place. You may feel that you need to hurt yourself. Your condition may become your identity. It’s time then to let Jesus into your story.
If you want to learn more about the story of Freedom as found in Todd’s Story and the Word of God, listen to our podcast at http://painesvilleag.com/story for the complete message.
Friend, do you need to experience the freedom that only Jesus Christ can bring? Do you have demons that continue to keep you bound, exposed, and driven from any kind of peace? Have you thought you could control them only to find yourself further in the wilderness of loneliness and despair? It’s time to submit to Jesus’ authority and let Him do what you cannot. Jesus has come to turn your story into a testimony that can lead you to freedom. This week, spend time in prayer submitting to God’s authority in your life. Call upon the name of the Lord to bring you freedom from the demons of your life. Ask Him to use your story of restoration as a testimony of His great love and power so that you can share your victory and freedom with others. Will you resist or will you let Jesus set you free?
